From the Course
Bill Smith, Course Superintendent
The golfing season has quickly slowed down with the cooler temperatures over the past few weeks. Although not great for golfing, this time has been nice for the grounds crew to complete additional maintenance jobs around the golf course. If you have played recently you might have noticed a new practice that we began this fall on the fairways using a machine called a Vertiquake. This machine has long blades that rotate in a linear pattern and cut a line in the ground as well as “shake” the surrounding area. The purpose of this is to decompact the ground which will promote better rooting of the turf as well as help with drainage. Other jobs that have kept the grounds crew busy this fall is the completion of the long task of core aerification, blowing out the irrigation system and mulching leaves. As this year comes to an end I would like to extend a big thank-you to all of my staff that work so hard to keep the course in the best shape possible. The back-bone of my crew include: Brian Lewis, John “Homey” Bryant, Jim White, Andrew Redding, Steve Tucker. If anyone has any questions or comments concerning the golf course, please contact me at bsmith@panthercreekcc.com , or 546-1469. Otherwise I would like to wish everyone a very happy and safe Holiday Season and look forward to seeing you next year.
